Starting off Slice of Life 2015 with a huge OMG! Where has the time gone? It is March 1st, we have 8 inches of fresh snow on top of 4 inches from last weekend, the 3rd quarter will end in two weeks, the juniors are taking the state ACT on Tuesday, and we start PARCC testing on Thursday. On Saturday younger son will be notified if he was awarded a larger scholarship; that notification will probably cement where he attends college in the fall. His baseball season starts tomorrow, and he turns 18 at the end of the month. and will graduate high school in 2 1/2 months. In three months older son will turn 21, and in 4 months he will be in Europe for four weeks of an incredible study abroad. Somewhere in there, I will give two more presentations, help plan this year’s EIWP Summer Institute, finish this spring’s graduate class, and carry out my very last prom. I will have my 30th high school reunion this summer (as I tell my students, don’t do the math), and I already know which graduate class I would like to take this fall (writing book reviews for young adult literature–how cool!). But while I am completely overwhelmed at this minute, so that my slice of life is simply a list of all these upcoming events, I dread the thought of being an empty-nester in the fall (especially on days with 8 inches of snow since I don’t know how to operate the four-wheeler with plow). Right now, time to buckle down and grade more reader’s notebooks. . .
